A Day Trip to Australia’s Blue Mountains

    January 3, 2021 / 1 Comment

You won’t run out of things to do in Sydney quickly, but I was glad to have enough time for a day trips. There’s many to choose from, but none so spectacular as the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains are an area about an hour and a half from Sydney. They are named for the bluish haze hanging over them. Because of the views and outdoor activities, the mountains are popular with tourists and city dwellers in need of fresh air alike. Disclosure: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. Guide to Byron Bay, Australia

    July 27, 2020 / 0 Comments

Byron Bay is a beach town in New South Wales, Australia known for gorgeous beaches, outdoor activities, cute cafes and healthy restaurants. It is a bit of a backpacker’s paradise meets hippie hangout with gentrification seeping through its edges. That description probably makes you want to stay far away doesn’t it? So why did I end up loving it so much when I visited in November? I arrived one afternoon off the Greyhound Bus from Coolangatta, ready to soak up some more sunshine and great beaches. The town is located just two hours down the coast from the Gold Coast. I spent about 5 days total here. Originally, I was…

Exploring Brecon Beacons in South Wales

    July 3, 2020 / 3 Comments

Brecon Beacons was our last outing before quarantine back in February. We planned to go to Milan but obviously we cancelled it due to Covid-19. I was disappointed even though it was definitely the right thing to do, and to make matters worse, we live very near the rail line and had an entire weekend of non-stop rail replacement works to look forward to. So I was thrilled when Matt suggested making the trip to South Wales. I lived in South Wales for about two years, in Swansea. While I’ve written previously about local beauty spots such as the Gower, I had not been to Brecon Beacons. What I found…

A Day Exploring the Giant’s Causeway

    February 12, 2019 / 18 Comments

Visiting the Emerald Isle, both The Republic of Ireland and the North, is like stepping into a fairy tale. It’s a land of legends and myths, castles and history and has even featured in Game of Thrones. No wonder this enchanting land has a place called the Giant’s Causeway. Located on the coast of County Atrim, the causeway is a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage site. What is the Giant’s Causeway The Causeway is a strange site. It looks more like a puzzle or a massive piece of modern art rather than something naturally made. But the approximately 40,000 interlocking, hexagonal basalt columns were formed almost 60 million years…

Two Days Exploring Ha Long Bay

    January 3, 2019 / 10 Comments

A must-see on many tourists’ lists, Ha Long Bay (or Halong Bay) was one of the most incredible places I saw on my trip to Vietnam. Located about 2 hours 45 minutes from Hanoi, the bay is famous for its emerald green waters and the thousands of limestone islands dotted within it. About Halong Bay A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Wonders of the World, it attracts a lot of visitors each year who flock to the bay for photo opportunities, swimming, hiking, exploring caves, and watersports. The bay has a long history and its unique formations have been the subject of legends for many years.…
